Press Release

New XML Firewall with advanced SOAP content inspection

15 June 2004

BERLIN - Xtradyne Technologies, a leading vendor for application security gateways, today released version 2.0 of its Web Services Domain Boundary Controller (WS-DBC) product, an XML security gateway with unprecedented support for XML/SOAP content inspection. With the new WS-DBC, Web Services can be comprehensively protected from unauthorized SOAP messages with malicious content, which may arrive over corporate intranets, partner extranets, or the Internet.

An increasing number of attacks is today being staged at the application level, such as command injection, buffer overflows, or even viruses. Without application-level content inspection, this class of attacks is virtually impossible to detect at the perimeters. The Xtradyne's Web Services DBC lets enterprises securely expose Web Services without compromising security for either applications or enterprise firewalls. It provides unparalleled content inspection features, including XPath filtering, automatic XML schema generation and validation, and SOAP attachment filtering.

The WS-DBC is a platform and vendor-neutral XML/SOAP gateway that helps enterprises implement Web Services standards cost-effectively, including SOAP, WSDL, WS-Security, SAML, XACML, XML Encryption, and XML Digital Signature. The WS-DBC can be easily integrated into existing Web Services infrastructures without modifying applications and provides WS-Security and unified security management across diverse platforms, such as Microsoft .NET, IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, Java WSDK, and Systinet WASP.

According to Sebastian Staamann, Co-CEO at Xtradyne, the new WS-DBC is a key building block for a secure Web Services strategy in the enterprise. "With the new Web Services DBC, Xtradyne provides the most complete content inspection functionality on the market", Staamann said. "The extremely high performance, combined with superior scalability and availability features, the flexible deployment options, and its advanced management support make this XML firewall the product of choice for enterprise-grade application scenarios."

The new Web Services DBC version 2.0 offers full deployment flexibility with wire-speed SOAP messaging performance. Key features include:

  • Pre-built SOAP security that integrates with existing applications without programming.
  • The most advanced content inspection features, using XML schema and XPath, and flexible virus scanning of SOAP attachments, and providing automatic generation of XML schemas from WSDL.
  • Rich set of authentication mechanisms for users, servers, and intermediaries, such as IP-based, SSL, HTTP basic authentication, WS-Security username tokens, and SAML.
  • Strong security protections, such as message integrity and confidentiality using XML Digital Signature and XML encryption, WS-Security, SAML, OCSP.
  • Powerful and unified security management features, such as role-based access control (RBAC), delegation of administrative authority, LDAP, SNMP, support for XACML, service exposure using WSDL, and versioning of security policies & rollback functions.
  • Extremely high performance and throughput; scalability and High Availability through cluster support.
